| The Fish
Here at
Emeryville Sportfishing, we specialize
fishing adventures for all skill levels
of fisherman. We have a year round
fishery where we pursue all of the
in-season
major salt water species in the SF Bay
Area. No matter what time of year you
intend to fish we always have a species
in season to fish for in the SF Bay
Area. Below you will find the
species and corresponding seasons.

Albacore
One
of the most sought after species of fish
of the Pacific Coast.

King
Salmon
Here
in our local waters we have one of the
most prolific runs of king salmon on the
West Coast. Our local salt water season
runs from early April to mid November
with daily trips are offered through the
whole period. In the early season we
typically catch kings ranging from 5 to
25 pounds and by summer and fall, the
range would be from 5 to 40 pounds. The
limit is two per day, with a 20 inch
minimum.

California Halibut
These
fish are the most sought after in San
Francisco Bay and on our local
coastlines. These delicious eating fish
are highly prized by the local anglers.
Typically, we start fishing for them in
mid to late April and can continue all
summer long into the fall. In the spring and
early summer, we normally fish the bays,
and mid summer to fall, both in the bays
and out on the coast. Typical size range
runs from 5 to 45 pounds. The limit is
three per day, with a 22 inch minimum.

Striped Bass
In
the entire bay-delta system, there is no
more sought after species than the
striped bass. Stripers usually start
showing up in San Francisco Bay for mid
April to early June, with the largest
numbers in the summer and fall. The
normal size range on stripers run from 4
to about 40 pounds over the course of a
season. The limit is two per day, with
an 18 inch minimum.

Rockfish
Another highly sought after great eating
fish, rockfish are abundant off our
coastlines, as well as in offshore
structure areas. Currently, our season
runs from July 1st through December
31st, with a 10 fish limit, and no size
limit. Typical size range runs from 1 to
10 pounds, although occasionally larger
species are taken. Rockfish are a very
diverse species, with 52 varieties off
the Pacific Coast alone.

Ling Cod
Another very popular species, ling cod
are targeted along with rockfish, as
they share the same season, as well as
the same environment. Currently, the
season on ling cod is from July 1st
through December 31st. The limit is two
fish per day, with a 24 inch size limit.

Sturgeon
The
sturgeon fishery for our fleet is
basically a winter and early spring
fishery. Normally we start fishing for
these prehistoric creatures from around
mid November through mid March. These
are the only species in which we have a
slot limit. The sturgeon have to be at
least 46 inches long, yet under 72
inches to keep. Top weight for keepers
is near 100 pounds, although these fish
can reach hundreds of pounds, with the
San Francisco Bay record at 468 pounds.

Leopard Shark
This
is another fishery in which we primarily
fish in the winter and early spring,
although the species is available year
round. Pound for pound these are
probably the best fighting fish in the
bay, as well as the best species for
eating. The limit is 3 per person, with
a 36 inch minimum size limit.

Dungeness Crab
One
of the favorites worldwide. |
